Reactavated. The 610th
was reactavated at Fort Irwin
California in 1966 under the command of CPT William Casey. On
10 Aug, 1967 the 610th parted Okaland, California bound for Vietnam on the
Troopship Gen. Nelson M Walker The 610th arrived at Cam
Ranh Bay on the 31st August,1967.
610th Engineer Company arrives at Cam Ranh Bay.
(610EC-I0): The 610th Engineer Company (Construction support) arrived at
Cam Ranh Bay on the 31st of August, 1967. It was cloudy and raining as the
Engineers disembarked from the troop ship and moved to their new company area
in the 87th Engineer Battalion Cantonment Area.
Coming from Fort Irwin,
California which is locat3d in the Mojave Desert approximately 20 miles from
Death Valley, the sands of Cam Ranh should pose no problem for these "Desert
Rats".
The newly arrived engineers will provide construction support
for the 35th Engineer Group.
